Dr. Mrs. Shanti Roy is presently a consultant Obstetrician and gynaecologist in Patna, the capital of Bihar. She is one of the most senior clinicians of Bihar. Although born in a remote village of Siwan District, named Goreakothi, as early as in 1940, she never felt the sex discrimination. Her father Late Jagannath Singh was an ordinary farmer and young mother, 17 yrs old at that time, Late Chandrawati Devi had just started teaching in a primary school. Being the first child, she got plenty of love and affection from her parents which helped her throughout her life and career. She had sharp mind from childhood which made her the most favourite child of her grandparents. She did her schooling from her village’s high school and passed matric examination with First Division. After passing Intermediate Examination from Langat Singh College in First Division, she took admission in Prince of Wales Medical College, Patna where in most of the examinations she topped the list. She passed her final MBBS in 1962 and was married in the same year to Late Prof. Brajdeo Prasad Roy. She joined State Health Services in 1963 and thereafter was selected for teaching post in 1965. Since then, she served as a teacher cum clinician in different medical colleges of Bihar, getting transferred from one to another. Finally she settled at Patna Medical College in the year 1975 and retired from there in 1998 as Prof. and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
